Electrostatic spray guns are advertised as having a "high powder application rate," but what exactly does that measure? ISO 8130-10:2021 explains it all.
Both spray guns are said to have a high powder rate. Why can one data be compared, and the other data can't be compared at all? When purchasing an electrostatic powder spray gun, statements such as "high powder rate", "high powder utilization rate" and "obvious powder saving" often appear in the sales materials. The problem is that these words look similar and may actually correspond to completely different measurement boundaries. ISO 8130-10: 2021 gives a method for determining deposition efficiency: under known spray gun and environmental conditions, it is determined how much mass of the sprayed powder is deposited on the specified specimen and expressed as a percentage by mass.It can be used to compare different powders under the same conditions, and it can also be used to compare different spray guns with the same powder; however, it is not directly equal to the powder utilization rate of the entire automatic spraying line, and it cannot represent the powder consumption of the unit qualified products separately.
Disk 2
Disk disc spraying appears one side thick, one side thin or color yin and yang side, the correct first level of troubleshooting is not to repeatedly modify the high pressure, but to answer two questions: Is the spray from the spinning disk circumferentially consistent? Is the path and residence time of the workpiece through the spray symmetrical? The spray is asymmetric, focusing on the paint, viscosity, distributor, disk surface, rotational speed, shaping gas, coaxiality and disk state; the path is asymmetric, focusing on the central position, distance, reciprocating trajectory, line speed, hanger rotation and multi-head superposition. Only after these two sets of variables are basically normal, continue to check the electrostatic high voltage, actual current, workpiece grounding, paint batch, metal pigment orientation and oven temperature difference. First confirm whether the spray is symmetrical, and then confirm whether the path is symmetrical. This makes it easier to find the true root cause and create a reproducible process window than tuning just one parameter.
Powder adheres too quickly to flat surfaces, doesn't get into grooves, and accumulates thicker at the edges? Don't increase the voltage yet.
The voltage of the electrostatic spray gun is not as high as possible. When first spraying in a large plane, strong electrostatic conditions may lead to rapid deposition; however, on grooves, inner corners, sharp edges, and returning workpieces, excessive electric field concentration and charge density may cause the outer edge to continue to grab powder, the penetration of the bottom of the groove is poor, and the risk of roughness, numbness, and reverse ionization is increased.
