Electrostatic spray guns are advertised as having a "high powder application rate," but what exactly does that measure? ISO 8130-10:2021 explains it all.

Both spray guns are said to have a high powder rate. Why can one data be compared, and the other data can't be compared at all?

When purchasing an electrostatic powder spray gun, statements such as "high powder rate", "high powder utilization rate" and "obvious powder saving" often appear in the sales materials.The problem is that these words look similar and may actually correspond to completely different measurement boundaries.

ISO 8130-10: 2021 gives a method for determining deposition efficiency: under known spray gun and environmental conditions, it is determined how much mass of the sprayed powder is deposited on the specified specimen and expressed as a percentage by mass.It can be used to compare different powders under the same conditions, and it can also be used to compare different spray guns with the same powder; however, it is not directly equal to the powder utilization rate of the entire automatic spraying line, and it cannot represent the powder consumption of the unit qualified products separately.
