Water-based paint electrostatic spraying guide: How to solve the problems of high viscosity paint clogging and poor atomization?

Author: BOSTAR Technical Content CenterTechnical Review: BOSTAR Spray Application Engineering GroupPublished: July 7, 2026Updated: July 7, 2026

Scope: General electrostatic spraying adjustment logic. This does not replace equipment-specific manuals.

Water-based paint electrostatic spraying has high viscosity, easy to block, poor atomization, and can not be solved only by "increasing pressure, increasing air volume, or increasing voltage". The water-based paint system, viscosity, solid content, filtration, temperature, resistivity, paint supply method, nozzle specifications, atomization method, grounding and isolation safety should be confirmed first, and then checked in the order of "paint status — filtration - paint supply — nozzle atomization — electrostatic adaptation — cleaning and maintenance". Fixed dilution ratios, pressures, voltages, nozzle calibers or judgments should not be given until specific gun models, paint data and safety configurations have been bound.
